Signing Ceremony and Collaboration with Nanjing Forestry University Overview
On July 27, 2024, a formal signing ceremony between Jiangsu Shirui Composites Co., Ltd. and Nanjing Forestry University took place at Shirui's Nantong facility. Under the witness of esteemed guests from both organizations, Chen Ningjun, Executive Vice President of Shiru Composite Materials, and Professor Li Haitao from Nanjing Forestry University officially signed the "Cooperation Agreement for the Engineering Base of the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Biomass Materials in Electromechanical Product Packaging." The ceremony also included a plaque awarding to commemorate this significant collaboration.
During their visit, Professor Li and his delegation toured a practical application of the fiber-reinforced composite imitation wood flooring produced by Shirui, showcased in the North Street Comprehensive Improvement Project. They expressed high commendation for the texture and performance of this innovative material. The delegation articulated their anticipation for further development of diverse composite material products to comprehensively and richly meet the rising demands of the market.
**National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Biomass Materials in Electromechanical Product Packaging**
The National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Biomass Materials in Electromechanical Product Packaging (hereinafter referred to as the "National Engineering Center") was established with the direct support of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, emphasizing the urgent need to research and develop substitute materials for electromechanical product packaging, as highlighted by the State Council's leadership. The center received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on June 11, 2015 (Document No. [2015]1355) and successfully passed the completion acceptance conducted by the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission in July 2022 (Document No. [2022]177).
The National Engineering Center is aligned with the national sustainable development strategy and the "dual carbon" objectives. Its mission—"serving green manufacturing, promoting material-saving alternatives to wood, and fostering economic and environmental benefits"—is pursued through collaboration with leading enterprises in China's heavy machinery sector and related fields of biomass composite materials and structures. The center is dedicated to addressing key technological challenges and equipment limitations faced by the industry, actively engaging in collaborative innovation and the engineering promotion of cutting-edge technologies.
Focusing on the research and application of biomass engineering materials, protective structures for heavy machinery transport, and the preparation of biomass engineering materials, the National Engineering Center conducts research on controllable preparation techniques for biomass materials, foundational theories for structural applications of biomass composites, manufacturing equipment for biomass products, and the standardization and industrialization of biomass materials. The center has established several platforms, including:
- A nondestructive testing and protective structure virtual simulation platform for biomass packaging composite materials.
- A design and manufacturing technology platform for protective structures of large electromechanical equipment.
- A research and development platform for biomass material manufacturing.
- A service platform for standards and technology transfer related to material-saving alternatives to wood.
- A technology platform for bamboo and wood carbon sequestration materials and structures.
- A research and promotion platform for the recycling of biomass composites and waste materials.
These initiatives underscore the National Engineering Center's commitment to advancing the field of biomass materials and addressing the challenges of sustainable development in the industry.
